@ the legislative session... For Unlock the Waiting Lists!

Currently in the 2011 budget there are 150 waivers to move people who live institutions and have developmental disabilities but no new waiver services for people with DD who currently live in the community. There is also a temporary hold on new waivers because of funding, and a hold on new providers being approved in Georgia until July 1.

We also know that the waiting list numbers have gone down on the DD side to about 4600. The state renumbered the list, purged duplicate names that were on the short and long term waiting list, and did a general maintenance of their database. This is a real under estimation of the need, and we urge any parent who is hesitating to put their child on either the short or long term list, to please start that process. We want state leaders to have accurate numbers of what services are needed and the dollars that are needed to eliminate the waiting list.

This year, Unlock is asking for a new multi-year funding plan from the legislature in order to make that happen.
